Songwriting is tricky and simple in the same breath. There are formulas that work consistently over time (see here, here, or here). Formulas have been used throughout history in music. Even Gregorian Chants had a basic formula. When you learn basic songwriting techniques, you learn about structuring chords, melodies, and lyrics into verses, choruses, bridges, intros, and solos to make a catchy song that people want to listen to. That’s the goal. So if the formula above works for country music, why wouldn’t you use it?
